National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

Established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1989, NIOS is one of the largest open schooling systems globally. A certificate from NIOS is equivalent to CBSE/ICSE and is fully valid for all university entries and jobs across India and abroad.

NIOS Class 10th Admission Eligibility

Required Document: Class 10th Failed mark sheets / Admit card or Birth Certificate.
Identity: Aadhaar Card is compulsory (with supporting local address proof).
TOC (Transfer of Credit): Original failed mark sheets of class 10th/12th from other boards (CBSE, BSEB) to carry over marks.
Class 12th Entry: Candidate must be at least 15 years old and hold a secondary level clear marksheet.
Category Proof: Caste certificates for SC/ST/OBC and Disability certificates (if applicable).

Documents Required for NIOS Registration

Active Email ID and Mobile number.
Address proof (Aadhaar, electricity bill, water bill, or ration card).
Original failed mark sheets of previous board (for TOC/credit transfer).
Social category/Caste certificate (in case of SC/ST/OBC).
4 recent passport-size colored photographs.

How to Apply for NIOS Admission

NIOS registrations are conducted online. The examinations are conducted twice a year in April-May and October-November. Learners are required to select subjects, upload valid documents, and pay the registration and exam fees online through the official student portal.
